ECG goes after Judicial Service over GH¢762,000 debt in power bills

The Judicial Service has been presented with a disconnection notice by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for allegedly delaying payment of its debt.

The Judicial Service owes ECG GH762,319.35 in power bills, and ECG’s attempts to collect the money after providing the institution with a “demand notice” have failed.

At around 12:40 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022, the ECG served the disconnection notice to the Judicial Service.

The ECG’s National Disconnection/Revenue Recovery Task Force is pursuing 29 extremely indebted institutions across the country in order to decrease their obligations.

Over a GH1.6 million debt, the power distributor has disconnected and then restored power to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Communications Ministry, Entrance Pharmacy, Accra Sports Stadium, EOCO, and Internal Audit Agency are among the international organizations on the’red list.’

If no commitment or attempt to pay the bill is made by Friday, the power distributor may disconnect the Judicial Service’s facilities from the national grid.

As of February 28, 2022, the Judicial Service had paid a total of GH450,592.
